Upgrades to the existing North West Tasmanian transmission network, along with potential new routes, will be required to increase network capacity and ensure the power system can accommodate development proposed in the North West Tasmania high priority Renewable Energy Zone (REZ), including solar, wind and pumped hydro.

The final routes and location of supporting infrastructure will be further defined as the design and approvals process progresses, and is considered for approval under relevant
Commonwealth and State environmental, land use planning and cultural heritage assessment frameworks.

TasNetworks is meeting with landowners, local councils, government and communities over the coming weeks to present the preferred Staverton to Hampshire Hills transmission line route and details of their route selection process, including how they incorporated feedback in their investigations, and to outline the next stage of the process, including the visual impact assessment and field survey work.
