Late last year, Tasmania achieved the capacity to provide all of its electricity needs using renewable generation sources. The increase in capacity was due to the construction of two new wind farms – Cattle Hill Wind Farm in the Central Highlands, and Granville Harbour Wind Farm on the West Coast.

Granville Harbour Wind Farm is now fully operational, after satisfying performance testing and a compliance assessment by the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) and TasNetworks. In December, the last remaining members of the once 200-strong construction team left site, handing over management of the Wind Farm to the operations team who will now manage the performance of the 31-turbine facility and oversee generation of approximately 400 gigawatt hours of clean energy every year. The land has been returned to pasture with cattle grazing alongside the wind turbines.
