Economic and Demographic Data
for the Cradle Coast region
Currently job vacancies and building approvals are high compared to the last ten years, population is growing and the employment projections are strong for the region. There is some difficulty recruiting reported by businesses and there is demand for workers to move to the region and upskilling in trades, engineering, early childhood, STEM teaching and health professionals. Rental vacancies across the region are low and there is a need for investment in residential housing which is seeing an increase in building approval rates relative to the last ten years.
Demographic data (council, region, state level) The Tasmania Regional Profile provides demographic analysis for the State and smaller areas within it based on results from the 2016, 2011, 2006 and 2001 Censuses of Population and Housing.
Demographic data spatial map (council, region, state level) The Tasmania Social Atlas presents Census data as a series of thematic maps that show how particular population groups are distributed across Tasmania. There are over 100 individual maps, each representing a community of interest, such as young children, or the elderly. The maps are created using data from the 2016 and 2011 Censuses of Population and Housing.
SEIFA Index (council, region, state level) Socio-Economic Indexes for Areas (SEIFA) is a product developed by the ABS that ranks areas in Australia according to relative socio-economic advantage and disadvantage. The indexes are based on information from the five-yearly Census.
Social Progress Index (state level) reporting on basic human needs, foundations of wellbeing and opportunity, data is collected and analysed by the Centre for Social Impact at UNSW Sydney in partnership with Swinburne University of Technology (CSI Swinburne) and The University of Western Australia.
