Community consultation is now open for the Renewables Tasmania Draft Renewable Energy Coordination Framework, with submissions closing on the 3rd of March.

The Framework sets out how to deliver orderly, sustainable and integrated large-scale renewable energy projects needed to unlock generation capacity to achieve Tasmania’s 200% renewables target, and deliver multiple benefits such as:

• Regional economic growth and job creation.
• The potential attraction of new load and industry.
• Additional renewable energy generation needed to replace coal-fired generation.
• Achievement of reliable and secure energy supply at least cost to consumers by:
º Leveraging economies of scale for generation, storage and efficient use of both new and existing transmission.
º Improving the national diversity of variable renewable energy through the addition of Tasmanian wind energy.
• Delivering access to high-quality wind resources in the National Electricity Market (NEM).

• Lower wholesale electricity prices in the NEM.
