Online Property Management Planning (PMP) Climate Change Module

Little Penguin Toolkit

FUNDING PROVIDER: State Government, DURATION: 2018-2020

A citizen science-based toolkit originally launched by Minister for Primary Industries and Water the Hon. Guy Barnett and Cradle Coast Authority CEO, Daryl Connelly.

Funded by the Tasmanian Government and developed by CCA’s Natural Resource Management (NRM) team, the toolkit was designed to help land managers and community groups monitor Tasmania’s Little Penguin populations and manage threats to their colonies.

Cradle Coast Cat Tracker

FUNDING PROVIDER: State Government, DURATION: 2018-2021

Have you always wondered where your cat goes when you see them leaving the house in the morning? At least 70% of cat owners allow their cat to roam away from their property, but do we really know where these cats go once we open the door?

The Cradle Coast Cat Tracker Project was planned to unravel the mystery.

Maugean Skate Awareness Project

FUNDING PROVIDER: State Government, DURATION: 2022-23

Cradle Coast NRM worked with species experts from Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS), Department of Natural Resources Environment Tasmania (NRET) Threatened Species and Wild Fisheries Management and relevant local community and recreational fishing stakeholders. We used a variety of community-based activities to reach a diverse range of audiences. Sharing the current scientific knowledge of this species in a variety of ways ensured that more people from the West Coast and from all over Tasmania gained a much greater understanding and appreciation of this significant species.

Coastal Saltmarsh Recovery in Robbins Passage and Surrounds

FUNDING PROVIDER: State Government, DURATION: 2020-23

This project aimed to improve the condition and long-term protection of the Coastal Saltmarsh Threatened Ecological Community by targeting Rice Grass, the primary ecological threat to saltmarsh, and by brokering and establishing conservation agreements with landholders to maintain and protect saltmarsh on their properties.

Protecting Our Productive Soils

FUNDING PROVIDER: FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, DURATION: 2019-2023

This project engaged and supported farmers to build capacity to better manage hillslope erosion on mixed cropping farms and soil acidification on intensive grazing enterprises. This was designed to achieve practice change on the ground and improve the sustainability of natural resource management across our productive landscapes.

Production systems approach to soil ecological restoration: building healthy, productive and climate resilient soils using cover crops and multi-species pastures.

DURATION: 2022 – 2023

Project Officers worked with producers from Simplot and Greenham Tasmania Pastoral to showcase the use of cover crops in intensive horticulture and multi-species pastures in beef cattle production.

Giant Freshwater Crayfish Recovery

FUNDING PROVIDER: FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, DURATION: 2019-2023

This project aimed to protect and improve priority stream habitat for the highly valued and vulnerable Giant Freshwater Crayfish. Working with landholders to establish conservation agreements and undertake riparian protection and rehabilitation works, the project aimed to increase the area of the species range that is protected from further habitat loss and degradation.
