While the rest of the world is beginning the shift to renewable energy, Tasmania has been powered by renewable energy for 100 years. Over time, infrastructure that was built decades ago has been modernised and modified to adapt to our growing population and changing energy needs. More recently, Tasmania’s renewable energy industry has hit its stride as the state reached the capability to generate 100% of its electricity needs within the state, using 100% renewable resources, reaching a key energy security goal.
From now, the legislated targets of increasing renewable generation by 50% in 2030 and by 100% in 2040, mean work is underway to generate, distribute and utilise abundant, clean, reliable energy within the state. This will drive growth and innovation in Tasmania’s construction, manufacturing, chemical, agriculture, logistics and resource industries.
Engineer Australia’s “Futures in Engineering – Ask an Engineer” this week gave Grade 9 and 10 students from five North West schools the chance to chat one-on-one with engineers working in the North West region across a range of industries.
Over the coming decades as these students pursue their careers, they will have opportunities to work in the North West in innovative and challenging roles, solving problems that we may not even know exist yet.
