Help shape the future of waterways, wetlands and coasts across north-west Tasmania. 

Cradle Coast NRM is looking for an experienced and collaborative Waterways & Coastlines Manager to lead a diverse portfolio of projects improving the health and resilience of our region’s rivers, estuaries, wetlands, urban waterways and coastal environments. 

You’ll lead and support a small project team, build strong partnerships with communities, government, industry, researchers and Aboriginal community stakeholders, and bring together science, strategy and community priorities to achieve practical environmental outcomes. 

 

About the role 

As Waterways & Coastlines Program Manager, you will: 

• Lead the delivery of Cradle Coast NRM’s water portfolio, including Strahan’s Healthy Harbour project and the Mersey Urban Rivers project. 

• Coordinate the proposed Ramsar nomination for the Circular Head Coastal Wetlands, including community and stakeholder engagement, scientific and planning inputs, and government liaison. 

• Lead, support and coordinate local and remote project staff to deliver agreed outputs and outcomes while maintaining a positive, collaborative work culture. 

• Build productive partnerships with community, Aboriginal community stakeholders, government, industry, land managers, researchers and other organisations. 

• Develop new projects, partnerships and funding opportunities that respond to regional priorities. 

• Oversee project budgets, contracts, monitoring, evaluation and reporting. 

• Communicate environmental information clearly and effectively to community, partners and decision-makers. 

 

About you 

We’re looking for someone who combines environmental knowledge with strong program leadership and people skills. You’ll be someone who can build trusted relationships, navigate differing perspectives and keep complex projects moving towards shared outcomes. 

 

You will bring: 

• Qualifications in natural resource management, environmental science/engineering or environmental management or a related field, or substantial equivalent experience. 

• Experience leading environmental or NRM programs and projects. 

• Strong stakeholder engagement, facilitation, negotiation and partnership-development skills. 

• Knowledge of water and aquatic environmental management. 

• Experience leading and supporting project teams. 

• Strong project, financial and contract management skills. 

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

 

Position details 

The position is offered on a full-time fixed 24-month contract (negotiable) with a base salary up to $105,000 per annum, dependent on the successful applicant’s knowledge, skills and abilities.
