Cradle Coast Authority (CCA) has brought representatives from its eight member Councils to meet with the Labor, Liberal, and Greens candidates contesting the federal seat of Braddon. This meeting provided an important opportunity to discuss shared regional priorities and individual Council federal funding requests.

The forum, hosted by CCA and facilitated by Chair of the Board the Hon. Sid Sidebottom and Chief Representative Waratah-Wynyard Mayor Mary Duniam, enabled open dialogue between local government leaders and Federal Candidates on the issues that matter most to the Cradle Coast region.

CCA’s regional priorities include investments for CCA to assist Councils and communities in the transition to net zero and ensure the region can meet future workforce needs – a future made for the Cradle Coast region of Tasmania.

Along with a range of Natural Resource Management (NRM) initiatives and a $1.3 million funding request to enhance the success of the Shared Coastal Pathway and ensure its completion, which has secured a funding promise from the Labor Candidate for Braddon Anne Urquhart during the campaign period.

Cradle Coast Authority CEO Sheree Vertigan AM said the event was a valuable step in ensuring local voices are heard at a federal level.

“As a regional organisation, CCA is uniquely positioned to bring our Councils together and help amplify their shared priorities,” Ms Vertigan said.

“This forum highlighted the value of collaboration. When our Councils speak with one voice, it strengthens the case for investment and support in our region.”

“Having the ability to host these conversations is core to our purpose,” Ms Vertigan added.

“We are thankful to Greens candidate Erin Morrow, Labor candidate Anne Urquhart and Liberal candidate Mal Hingston for their time. CCA is pleased to be able to provide this platform for constructive engagement that benefits the whole community.”

CCA looks forward to meeting with Independent Candidates contesting the federal seat of Braddon, furthering today’s conversations, and seeking commitments.

The Cradle Coast Authority represents the councils of Central Coast, Circular Head, Devonport, Kentish, King Island, Latrobe, Waratah-Wynyard, and West Coast.
