CCA hopeful Burnie City Council will re-join

Media release – CCA BCC statement

Cradle Coast Authority hopeful Burnie City Council will re-join the regional organisation, restoring full regional collaboration

Cradle Coast Authority (CCA) welcomes Burnie City Council’s upcoming decision on whether to re-join the region’s joint authority, restoring full regional collaboration among all nine councils in the north-west and western Tasmania.

Burnie City Councillors will consider a proposal at their upcoming meeting, to be held on Tuesday, 24 June 2025, and CCA is hopeful that the outcome will result in the Council rejoining.

Cradle Coast Authority CEO Sheree Vertigan AM said CCA has maintained a respectful and constructive working relationship with Burnie City Council since their withdrawal and has worked closely with all Member Councils and Burnie City Council in recent months to support this decision-making process.

“Throughout Burnie City Council’s time outside CCA, we’ve remained in contact,” Ms Vertigan said. “In recent months, we’ve worked constructively with the Council to support a return that would benefit the whole region.”

CCA is a regional organisation with a clear purpose: to strengthen the Cradle Coast by supporting collaboration across councils and communities, driving economic development and protecting and enhancing natural resources.

Through core council contributions, CCA secures a strong return on investment by attracting state and federal funding, delivering regional projects, and advocating for shared priorities.

“We are proud of the value we deliver for our Member Councils, every dollar invested is leveraged into tangible outcomes, having Burnie re-join would strengthen our capacity,” Ms Vertigan said.

CCA’s current eight member councils – Central Coast, Circular Head, Devonport City, Kentish, King Island, Latrobe, Waratah-Wynyard and West Coast – have expressed strong support for Burnie City Council’s return.
