Cradle Coast Mayors urge prompt decisions from Hon. Tanya Plibersek MP, Federal Minister for the Environment and Water, on critical issues.
The leaders of the Cradle Coast region have sent a united letter to the Hon. Tanya Plibersek MP, Minister for the Environment and Water, calling for urgent attention to prolonged decision-making processes impacting key industries and the region’s future.
The letter, signed by the Chief Executive Officer of the Cradle Coast Authority and Mayors from all nine councils in the region, highlights the growing community concern over delays in assessing projects critical to economic growth and employment. These projects include the Salmon Industry on the West Coast, the Rosebery Mine Tailings Dam and the Robbins Island Windfarm near Smithton.
Cradle Coast leaders emphasise that delayed decision-making by policymakers is creating significant uncertainty for businesses, industries, and communities. “These delays are not only affecting current projects but are also putting future investments at risk, especially during challenging economic times,” the letter states.
The signatories have expressed concern over protracted government processes’ social and economic impact. They urge Minister Plibersek to prioritise these matters, emphasising that timely decisions are essential to ensure stability, community well-being and continued economic development in our region.
“Our region’s future depends on timely and decisive action,” said Sheree Vertigan AM, Cradle Coast Authority Chief Executive Officer. “The uncertainty these delays create is holding back growth, job creation, and community confidence. We urge the Minister to prioritise these critical projects to secure a strong and sustainable future for the Cradle Coast.”
The Cradle Coast Authority and the region’s leaders remain hopeful that their unified appeal will add to the increasing pressure and bring greater urgency to these important matters.
