Project launch: Cradle Coast Regional Priority Weeds

From 2025 to 2027, Cradle Coast NRM, in partnership with Landcare Tasmania, will deliver the Cradle Coast Regional Priority Weeds Project, funded through Stage 3 of the Tasmanian Weeds Action Fund (WAF).

Launched in 2019 by the Tasmanian Government, the WAF aims to address the threat of priority weeds on Tasmania’s agricultural productivity, natural environment and community assets.

Building on previous initiatives, this new project will focus on strategic planning, education and awareness, the development of weed management plans, and targeted on-ground works to address high-priority weeds across the region.

As part of the funding, Cradle Coast NRM will develop a Regional Weed Strategy, shaped through stakeholder consultation and guided by current Tasmanian and Australian legislation. The strategy will identify priority weed infestations for future management programs, highlight opportunities for capacity-building, and recommend best practice monitoring and evaluation processes.

Landholders, community groups, and local government are encouraged to participate.

CCNRM Regional Weeds Coordinator, Petra Wilden, said, “The existing volunteer and professional networks across the region are vital to shaping the project’s direction and outcomes and have the potential to significantly enhance the success of our initiatives.”

Through consultation sessions, working groups, and educational events, stakeholders will have opportunities to contribute directly to the development of the weed strategy and associated weed management plans.
