The Cradle Coast Authority (CCA) welcomes Federal Government investment in the region announced by Nationals Senator Steve Martin today.
Tasmanian Nationals Senator Martin has pledged that the Australian Government will provide CCA with $4M to establish new or improved farm vehicle wash down and effluent dump facilities in Smithton, Burnie, Devonport and King Island.
These facilities will allow farmers and truck drivers to wash down their equipment and, in the case of livestock carriers, empty their effluent tanks.

- Improved biosecurity
- Improved animal welfare
- Improved workplace health and safety
- Improved road safety
- Cleaner roads for locals and tourists
“Senator Martin has worked exceptionally hard to deliver this for the Cradle Coast region,” said Cradle Coast Authority CEO, Daryl Connelly.
“This is one of six regional priorities identified by the Mayors and General Managers of the Cradle Coast Councils.”
“Nobody knows the needs of our community and industry like they do, and the CCA’s job is to ensure their voice is heard in Hobart and Canberra; that’s exactly what has happened today with the help of Senator Martin.”
The long-term viability of publicly accessible washdown and effluent dump facilities requires a sustainable operating model.
“This funding will not only cover the design and construction of best practice facilities but will allow the Cradle Coast Authority and its member councils to work together with industry, to develop sustainable operating and maintenance arrangements for each facility,” Mr Connelly said.
