Little Penguins have Cradle Coast NRM’s Support

Penguin-Guide-Training2

Cradle Coast NRM supported training for over 50 participants from 3 groups: Friends of Burnie Penguins, Friends of Lillico Penguins and Stanley WildS’cool.

The volunteers are trained in interpretation and hear talks on the latest research, this time from a Phillip Island expert.
Each Little Penguin breeding season, 2-3 volunteers are rostered on each night at Burnie and Lillico from September/October through to February/March. The Stanley group volunteer only at weekends.

Last year there were 20,053 visitors at the Burnie and Lillico designated penguin viewing areas alone.
There are 17 species of penguins worldwide and only one species in Tasmania (and Australia) – the Little Penguin.
