Tasmania has been a renewable energy pioneer since our first hydro power station was built in 1914. While we are currently a renewable energy leader, there is still room for improvement. Our net zero status is underpinned by forestry carbon capture. In addition to this, only around 44% of Tasmania’s overall primary energy consumption comes from renewable energy. There is still much work to be done to reduce our carbon emissions as we transition away from fossil fuels. Educating ourselves about this is important.
Recently, The Advocate provided our community with the opportunity to read about different perspectives of the Marinus Link project. We understand that accessing information about renewable energy can be a little confusing. Therefore, it was good to see TasNetworks and Marinus Link at the Burnie Show and the Wynyard Tulip Festival, providing an opportunity to ask questions and access information. For those who didn’t get a chance to chat about the projects in person, we note that our Future Energy Hub is based in our offices in Burnie. The Future Energy Hub provides access to brochures and is a conduit for questions and information.
